Danger

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram crash. They have not been working for several dozen minutes. The problem, as usual, is DNS, and more precisely a change in the configuration of BGP routers that support Facebook's infrastructure. You can find more information on this topic on our Facebook. Sorry, it was hard to resist ... ;-)

This enter is to blame for everything

The reason for the problems is this change in BGP routes 5 minutes before the start of the failure:

Downdetector is currently showing an increase in Facebook notifications:

…but not only. So there is a chance that the failure goes beyond the Facebook network itself:

Or it is because people start calling their ISPs, complaining that their internet is not working: -DI would actually be funny if it weren't scary. That for some, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp is the whole internet… 🤯

Facebook employees cut off from company systems

It is certainly not for Facebook employees who not only cannot connect to the Facebook systems they use for work (FB Workplace). Some people cannot enter the company's buildings because their badges do not work. Probably the servers of the "identity" management systems were also hosted in the same data center, cut off from the world. Data center that - watch out for recursion - cannot be entered by authorized employees to help fix the problem locally. Because there is no remote access to routers after a failure.

Facebook is going to suffer a bit now, as everyone who addressed the problem to it in recent months saw the message that "unfortunately, but due to the pandemic, there are fewer people working and there will be delays in contact". Facebook's delay in contact with the world has just exceeded 4 hours ...

PS. To make it even happier, Facebook collapsed during a speech by one of the managers on CNBC, who referred to the report recently released by the WSJ that Instagram makes children depressed, and the company consciously does not counteract algorithms that select depressive content, because a different type of information makes users they leave less money on the platform.
