Huawei Y6p - our test

Smartphone class C (scale of "Mercedes" A, B, C, E, S)

Rating scale 1-6 (6-range)

We start

Huawei Y6P has the potential for one of the better budget devices. For PLN 599, we get a very pleasant phone call of compact size, with good photo capabilities, long working time on one charging and a decent screen. There is even NFC - in this class it is rare.In terms of specifications, there is nothing to complain about, however, since political turmoil affects the software.Y6P is devoid of Google services, and thus access to many useful applications.Instead of a Google Play store, we have Huawei Appgalllery, which offers more and more, but he still lacks a lot to comparable functionality.Let's see how to use a budget device based on Huawei Mobile Services (HMS).

The main pros and cons of Huawei Y6p

Advantages of Huawei Y6P:

Disadvantages Huawei Y6P:

How do we assess the design?- rating 4

The phone after picking up pleasantly surprises. It is true that as expected we get plastic, but it is very good quality, the back with a little good will can be mistaken for the glass of the glass and we definitely do not feel that we are holding a budget device. The frame is also plastic, as well as the buttons for switching on and adjusting the volume on the right. On the left we have a tray for two SIM cards plus an additional memory card. At the bottom there is a mini-jack output for headphones, loudly playing a single speaker and something that reminds us that we are dealing with a budget telephone, I have not seen a micro USB for a long time. On the back there is a place for a fingerprint reader - it is fast and a mid -range phone would not be ashamed of it. Alternatively, we can unlock the phone with your face - and this method is also fast and trouble -free. The camera eyelets on the left surrounded by the frame protrude slightly above the surface of the phone. The dimensions of the Y6P are 159.7 x 74.6 x 9.4 mm and weight - 185 g. The phone is pleasant and comfortable in the hand, we are able to handle it with one hand without any problems and the index finger perfectly goes to the fingerprint reader. The smartphone in the version we tested has a nice purple color for the eye, green and black are available.

What do we think about the display?- rating 4

The manufacturer used an IPS panel with a resolution of 720x1600 pixels (HD+), 278 PPI and 6.3 inch diagonal. The selfie webcam is hidden in notch. We have automatic screen brightness adjustment, color temperature adjustment, blue light filter and an interesting e-book mode that makes the display monochrome.Visibility in full sun is not the best, the intensity of colors is also not at the highest level, but there is also no reason to complain, we are talking about a budget device. The display is therefore what we can expect.Plus, you deserve a protective film on the screen, which is good quality, well glued and does not bother when using gestures pulled from the edge.

Specification/action - rating 3/4

Huawei Y6P is powered by an octa -core, quite dear MediaTek Helio P22 MT6762 processor with PowerVR GE8320 GPU.It has 3 GB of RAM, built -in memory, we have 64 GB.Unfortunately, despite multiple attempts, I was not able to install Antut Benchmark. On the internet you can find information that the processor reaches about 8,000 points on the older version of the test. The phone without Google services, however, works surprisingly efficiently and quickly.Sporadically there are slight cuttings of animations, but definitely during his daily work closer to solid average than cheap budgetists.Despite only 3 GB of RAM, it is able to keep 5-6 bookmarks in memory for a long time.

Despite the availability in the Appgalery, we are not able to install Fortnite, with ASPHALT 9 Y6P did well, with a long game it heats up slightly.

The quality of conversations is at a very good level.

The system is Android 10, at the time the security correction test was dated April 1.It is covered with an emui overlay version 10.1, as I wrote, without access to Google services.

The overlay is well known to Huawei smartphone users and a lot has not changed in it.Because it is Android 10, we have a dark interface motif at our disposal, choosing a way to navigate with function buttons or gestures and dividing the screen. There is a screenshot after dragging three fingers down, waking up by lifting the phone or turning it to calm the bell.Of course, we have the ability to block access to the application or hide them as well as photos or videos in the safe. From curiosities - FM radio works without connected headphones - on an external speaker.

However, the answer to the question is whether it is possible to use a phone without Google services.

Thanks to the Phone Clone application, we are able to transfer contacts, text messages, photos, and most importantly-applications from an older smartphone. Also those who are not in the Appgallery.Unfortunately, not all of them will work, because Google services are needed for some. But a large part worked flawlessly.

We can also use the programs through the browser, creating a shortcut on the desktop.I did this, for example, from YouTube - we are not able to stretch the image to the whole screen, but besides, we have access to all functions known from the application.Google navigation can be replaced by AutoMapa or Here Wego available in Appgalllers.I also use this second program on telephones with GMS, so here I had no problem with a change in habits.

You can use gmail quite simply - just connect an account for the mail client on the phone, this possibility is already prepared in the settings.

There are also social media, without which many people are difficult to function today, and payments. It is basically without any problems with the former, because Facebook, Messenger or Instagram can be installed from alternative stores - I used Aptoide.

It is also simple with payments - they just don't have them.In time, this is to change, Huawei has already announced the appearance of mBank in Appgalllery for HMS phones. For now, there was a version for Huawei smartphones with Google services, like IKO PKO BP.However, my phone was not able to search for any of these applications. So as a rule, despite the NFC Y6P module we will not pay contactlessly.

All in all, using Y6P without Google services is possible, and if we are less demanding users, and in the end budget phones are intended for such people and we are aware of restrictions, we will not complain.

What photos do he take and what movies do?- 3+ rating

The camera set includes: 8 MP f/2.0 at the front and 13 MP (f/1.8, PDAF);5 MP (f/2.2, wide -angle) and 2 MP (f/2.4, depth sensor) at the back.We will record movies in FHD and HD resolution, recommended by the manufacturer is lower.

The camera application is extremely simple, at the top we only have access to the flash and entry into the settings, at the bottom of the modes: aperture, digital makeup, photo, film and more, where we will find Pro mode (surprisingly very extensive), panorama and HDR.There is no night mode.

The quality of photos for a budget class is decent with a small plus.Which means that with a good light and a little luck we will take a really nice photo, which we will show off on social media without shame. In other cases, more demanding users will complain about: average detail, a fairly large difference in the brightness of photos and color reproduction between the main lens and wide angle, and their randomness - in one after the other photos they can be even unnaturally saturated to fall out on the next frameVery pale. It's just that more demanding users after Huaweia Y6P will not reach, and its buyers are unlikely to expect miracles.

The video has a decent detail, but the lack of stabilization means that you do not watch it well.

How long does the battery work?- rating 5

The battery has an impressive 5000 mAh, which with a low -demanding processor and low screen resolution makes Y6P a real long -distance runner. With normal use, we will charge it every 2, 3 days, maybe even less often, it all depends on what we do on the phone.I managed to achieve about 6 hours of work on the screen turned on in three days, which is an impressive result.Of course, there is no induction charging, but there is a return charging, i.e. we can use our phone to recharge another device.A large battery, however, is also a long charging - to fill it with a charger from the box we need over 3 hours.

Our final assessment

I approached Huaweia Y6p quite distrustfully, several phones without Google services have already passed through my hands and I rather tried to install them on each of them on my own.I did not do it here and assuming that this is a simple smartphone for less demanding users - children or the elderly - it surprised me positively.Mainly with my trouble -free action, I would never say that we have only 3 GB of RAM on the phone. Also, the application can be limited, but the most popular ones are to be found, and the browser always remains in the reserve. The downside is the lack of contactless payments despite the NFC module, but in the perspective of several months Huawei promises to make up for these deficiencies. So instead of a drama, I had a cheap, well -functioning device with a few restrictions.Although, of course, buying a phone with smaller possibilities should be carefully thought out.

We love: Action of a fingerprint reader

We don't like: no Google services
