The Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone is one of those devices that have interested me from the moment I heard about them for the first time.In the case of this particular model, it took place during its international premiere, which, by the way, I reported for you here.

Already then, while getting acquainted with the technical aspects of the new smartphone, I gained a strong desire to check its capabilities in person. This is not a particularly common event when a given manufacturer presents a high -price device, which, at first glance, seems impossible to conquer.

Motorola Edge 20 in three scenes: it got really interesting!

In the case of the Polish market, for the hearts of those clients who agree to the smartphone, a sufficiently high amount, they fight, above all, Samsung and Apple. It is these two companies that managed to effectively conclude the market, to such an extent that it is extremely difficult to get them out at least the smallest piece of cake.Suffice it to say that the last smartphone, which really threatened the position of Apple and Samsung flagship in Poland, was the model from ... 2019 - Huawei P30 Pro.

Since then, they have been trying, among others, Xiaomi, Asus, Oppo, Vivo or OnePlus, but sales statistics remain inexorable - if the smartphone roads, Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S/Z.

Despite the extremely difficult task, Motorola set a very ambitious goal for her - offer customers something that will convince them to choose this product. The recipe for success seemed simple - a very efficient SoC system, strong cameras, solid workmanship and a beautiful display.Nothing of these things, on board the Edge 20 Pro, there was not enough.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro at Media Expert

Unfortunately, a higher price smartphone is much more than just basic parameters. This is the sum of smaller and larger details that, in combination with the right software, will create a whole that you can assign an uncompromising patch.Motorola Edge 20 Pro, at least on paper, is not at all, although it is not much lacking.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro - technical specification

An indication of the shortcomings mentioned above will be possible when we take a look at the table with the technical specification. Here's how it looks:

At the price of PLN 3299 we get one of the strongest SOC systems on the market (Qualcomm Snapdragon 870), an interesting set of cameras, including a periscope lens, allowing you to achieve 5x optical close -up, OLED display with refreshing 144 Hz and a 4500 mAh battery. On the one hand - everything you need is in place. On the other hand, when you take a closer look, deficiencies come out.

The first, in my opinion, the most important is the lack of stereo speakers. The smartphone costing over PLN 3,000, such a drawback, simply does not escape. The second one, whose absence may be felt by amateurs of smartphone photography and filming, is the lack of optical stabilization in the basic apparatus.Third - no wireless charging.

The fourth, slightly smaller (in my opinion), no headphone output.Fifth - no place for the MICRO SD card.In times of growing popularity of high resolution music, the last two may grow to be a lot of shortcomings, of course, if someone intends to use Apple Music, Tidala or Deezer in unstratium sound quality.

Not too many deficiencies, for a smartphone for this money? The final decision belongs to the buyers, but I have a lot of doubts.

Sales set richly

The packaging in which Motorola provides the Edge 20 Pro model to customers is impressive by its thickness.Already taking them in your hand you can be sure that inside we will find much more than just the smartphone and cable used to charging it, which has recently become a market fashion.

A large sales box hides the following content:

A nice addition, unprecedented at the competition offering the possibility of connecting a smartphone to an external monitor and obtaining a desktop interface, is a dedicated cable.I have the impression that in this way Motorola wanted to attract the attention of users to the new function so that they would like to personally check how the smartphone can do after connecting the keyboard, mouse and large screen.

Nothing interesting is happening around the beautiful housing

From the first moments, Motorola Edge 20 Pro tries to convince his buyer that he has made the right decision.I have to admit that he does it extremely effectively. In the Midnight Blue version is one of the most beautiful smartphones I have dealt with recently.

Shining, depending on the angle of incidence of light, the backs, make it possible to hang for a long time looking at what effect will arise if the light breaks on them in a certain way.It looks very effective and really nice to the eye.

Against the background of interesting backs, the manufacturer's logo is discreetly shimmering, which I have the impression that it has been covered with a slightly different protective layer than the rest of the back. This, by the way, a fairly interesting topic that is worth mentioning.

In the official technical specification you can read that the material from which Motorola Edge 20 Pro backs are made is 3D glass. In practice, one cannot resist the impression that the back of the smartphone is simply plastic. Both to the touch and in the sounds made after knocking, it resembles typical plastic much more than even Gorilla Glass from the flagship Samsung devices.

I believe Motoroli in my word that this material is glass, only protected with appropriate protective layers.Nevertheless, it is the most specific glass that I was dealing with in smartphones.

As I mentioned in the title of the chapter, along the Motorola Edge 20 Pro frames nothing happens at all that could catch our attention. On the left - only the Google assistant activating button. On the right - volume control buttons and a switch with an integrated fingerprint scanner.Top - an additional microphone.Down-single speaker, USB-C socket and place for two SIM cards.

Software - quickly, elegant and clean

What is the biggest advantage of Motorola smartphones from the low and medium shelf? This is the software that, thanks to which these devices, despite relatively low -efficient components, are able to offer users responsiveness at an acceptable level. The aforementioned effect was achieved, above all, thanks to leaving the original Google overlay in almost unchanged. The most important addition here are gestures that facilitate service, as well as an application that allows you to match individual elements to your own preferences.

Could this procedure also work in a high -end device, whose task is to compete, among others, with Samsung and its versatile One UI?In my opinion, definitely yes.Among buyers, expensive and very expensive smartphones, supporters of economical form will also be found and there will be not enough of them.

During editorial tests, Motorola Edge 20 Pro worked under the control of the Android 11 operating system, with security corrections dated August 2021.I have to admit that in everyday exploitation, everything worked exactly as I imagined before - very quickly, very stable and without any problems. From the software side, Motorola did her homework exemplary.

  • As I mentioned earlier, the overlay in Motorola Edge 20 Pro is a practically clean Android 11 system, which is why the only elements, especially worth attention, are: service using gestures, as well as the Moto application, in which you can find quite large, for such clean software, configuration options.

By the way, I would be surprised if such a light overlay, gave Snapdragon 870, in the company of 12 GB RAM, any problems.

Performance without a shadow of a doubt

If anyone had any doubts about whether the components responsible for the efficiency of Motorola Edge 20 Pro, agree to its price shelf, the results of synthetic tests divide them once and for all:

  • The impression is, in particular, the result of the endurance test in which the 3DMark Wild Life benchmark is launched 20 times in a row.The achieved results ranged from 1202 to 1208, which translates into stability of 99.5%.In practice, this means that Motorola Edge 20 Pro is a smartphone whose word overheating is completely foreign.

Are you looking for a gaming smartphone?Motorola Edge 20 Pro is one of the best elections on the market.

Impressive battery. It is a pity that without wireless charging

As you know, one of the most important shortcomings of Motorola Edge 20 Pro, taking into account its price, is the lack of wireless charging. However, the imperfections in the matter of power supply ends, because the 4500 mAh battery, in cooperation with a lightweight overlay.

With the 5G network enabled and the 144 Hz display frequency, Motorola Edge 20 Pro is able to withstand up to 9.5 hours of work on the screen. In practice, this translates into two full working days without a charger, and less often using the smartphone, after switching off 5g and reduce the frequency of refreshment of the screen, will be able to enjoy work without a charger much longer.

  • Once the battery is lacking, we can top up with a 30 W charger, available in the sales set.The first 60% of charge appears on the smartphone screen after 20 minutes, and up to 100% Motorola Edge 20 Pro charges about an hour and 10 minutes.

If only Motorola did not forget about wireless charging, in the aspect of the battery, Motorola Edge 20 Pro would be a complete smartphone.

    Multimedia with a big downside

What can you expect from a smartphone for over PLN 3,000 in the matter of multimedia? In theory, all the best on the market. The facts are that with a smartphone in hand we spend (unfortunately) more and more time, which is why the presentation of visual and sound content should stand at the highest level. How does Motorola Edge 20 Pro deal with it?Strangely, very average.

The display, although large, effective and refreshed with an impressive frequency of 144 Hz, is one of the strangest constructions of this type I dealt with in smartphones.Initially, I had the impression that the touch layer was slightly shifted in relation to the screen, which caused problems with hitting the keys. After a few days, the problem disappeared automatically, leaving an unexplained puzzle about its cause.

Another, equally uninteresting impression remained with me until the end of the test. The colors presented by this display are so unnatural that in the first days of tests I had to send photos to the computer to make sure that everything is fine with them.On the smartphone screen they looked extremely unfavorable, regardless of what color display mode he worked.

In the sound layer, unfortunately, it's even worse.A single mono speaker, in addition, really poor quality, is something that is not fitting to the smartphone for PLN 3299.Trying to listen to music on the Edge 20 Pro speaker, I could not resist the impression that I was holding a smartphone in my hand four times cheaper.Empty, not very loud, just bad.

Nice camera, but only during the day

Motorola Edge 20 Pro designers, they had to be perfectly aware of how important the best camera is for a potential customer. This approach resulted in placing, on a photographic island of a smartphone, three cameras: main, with a resolution of 108 MPPIX, tele (8 Mpix), with a periscope lens, optical image stabilization and the possibility of five times optical approximation, as well as ultra -ultrazer -angle, with a resolution of 16 Mpix.

In theory, that's all you need to take great photos. In practice - it is exactly so, but only on one condition - photos must be taken in good lighting conditions. In such circumstances, it is impossible to accuse them of anything, maybe except for too much HDR effect in some shots.

  • The situation is definitely worse when the lighting conditions deteriorate. In this case, certainly, the optical stabilization of the main lens, which we will not find here.It is difficult to say anything about a dedicated night mode. Some smartphones, especially from this price shelf, can afford more.

  • It is difficult to have more reservations about the selfie. For publication in social media, as he found.

  • B like instant biometrics

The biometric protection of Motorola Edge 20 Pro is a fingerprint scanner, placed on the frame frame, on the right. This means that the smartphone will be unlocked, above all, with the help of a thumb. When we get used to the Domiejsca, in which a switch with an integrated scanner is placed, the quality of protection can be spoken in superlatives - very fast, very accurate, trouble -free.

I have no objections to the conversations, but what about it 5G?

A smartphone is still a phone call, so despite the passing time, you can't forget about the quality of phone calls. This, on the Motorola Edge 20 Pro device, is at a sufficiently high level. The speaker playing the voice of the interlocutor is loud enough to hear the words directed to us very clearly, and the microphone collects what we say exactly as it should.I have not encountered any reservations from my interlocutors, I didn't have them myself.

I have to devote a separate paragraph on 5G connectivity, which, I have an impression, worked here really strange. The standard is that a higher data transfer speed can be achieved using LTE - it is a matter of configuring Polish new generation networks. The problem is that Motorola Edge 20 Pro, when she caught 5G, was not always able to use it.

Suddenly it turned out that the smartphone completely lost access to the Internet, and the situation was saved only by manual switching to LTE.Similarly, it happened that in unexplained circumstances, instead of connecting to the 5G network, the smartphone chose not LTE, but ... 3G, which in Poland is slowly extinguished.

I am not sure if it is the fault of the smartphone or my operator, so I will not save it on the side of the disadvantages of the device.I have to tell you about my feelings from a reviewer's duty.

Ready For, or a smartphone as a computer

The idea of an alternative interface for Android, operated with a keyboard and mouse, is not new in a smartphone world. It is worth mentioning, among others, about Samsung and DEX software, allowing you to display the content of the smartphone almost as in the case of connecting a desktop or laptop.

In the case of Motorola, the Ready for solution can be used in various ways: wired and wireless.Smartphone image can be displayed on a computer with Windows, as well as on a TV or monitor. For the purposes of this review, I have tested two variants: a wired connection with a computer and wireless connectivity with TV.

To display a smartphone screen on a computer monitor, download the appropriate accompanying application from Motorola, and then install it on your computer. In fact, the aforementioned application is a very simple solution that helps share a smartphone screen as a remote desktop.

  • What are the advantages of such a solution?Even such that we can reply to SMS in this way, which works well from the Windows application of your phone.Unfortunately, as it is a remote desktop, not cloning the screen, smartphone protection does not allow you to start sensitive applications, including banking applications.Well, accustomed to convenient paying with the help of Dex, they will not be happy.

In the case of a wireless connection with a smartphone, we are dealing with typical screen cloning, but with the change of system interface from touch to classic.Motorola Edge 20 Pro turns into a touch plate, thanks to which, after the displayed screen, you can navigate as if we used a laptop.

  • Ready for this mode, certainly, really nice curiosity. It is difficult for me to speak clearly about its usefulness - the tests lasted too short for me to find a situation in which it could be useful, except for the use of Blik.

Certainly, however, the buyers of this smartphone will be found, who will show situations in which Ready for will prove useful. If you read this, share your insights in the comments and let me go to the summary.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro could be a great smartphone. It is only very good

At the very beginning of this review, I recalled the example of Huawei P30 Pro.Not without a reason. It was a device that, despite the fact that it was not produced by one of the tycoons in the segment of flagship smartphones, literally brushed the ideal.Apart from trifles that can easily be silent, the P30 Pro was recombined by using a single, weak speaker. The decision was justified by design and the pursuit of framelessness, as a result of which even the speaker for telephone conversations landed under the screen, which was deplorable..

Motorola Edge 20 Pro and Huawei P30 Pro have the same common feature - the catastrophic mono speaker.Unfortunately, where the list of defects Huawei ends, in Edge 20 Pro is just starting.P30 Pro was, at the time of the market debut, the best photo smartphone on the market.Motorola Edge 20 Pro is only very good, with the proviso that the competition in the form of Samsung, Apple or Oppo offers, in this price shelf, a little more.Huawei P30 Pro had wireless charging (also maneuverable), Motorola is not there at all.

Does this mean that Motorola Edge 20 Pro is doomed to failure?Let's take a look at the competition, remembering that its current price is PLN 3299.Samsung Galaxy S20 Fe, in a version without 5G, currently costs PLN 2799, and more and more often it happens that its price falls around PLN 2,000 - depending on the promotion.Samsung Galaxy S21, which is a full -fledged flagship, we will currently buy for PLN 2999.Oppo Reno 6 Pro - PLN 3349.

If the reviewed smartphone cost less than PLN 3,000, it would certainly be easier for him to fight for the hearts of customers. As soon as this happens, I will be able to recommend it to anyone who does not pay attention to the speaker.
