Motorola Moto Z4 officially. Modular flagship (?) For the fourth time

Well, it is not common for a store to not only show the product side before the premiere of the device, but also send copies to those who took advantage of the employees' inattention and managed to place orders. However, it happened in this case, so the premiere of the Moto Z4 was pure formality.

Motorola Moto Z4 finally with really small frames

The new smartphone has a 6.4-inch OLED screen with an aspect ratio of 19: 9 and a resolution of 2340 x 1080. The display is integrated with an on-screen fingerprint reader, and in its upper part there is a small indentation for a selfie camera.

It is worth bearing in mind that Motorola designers are slaves to decisions made many years ago. The entire Moto Z series is compatible with the Moto Mods modules attached to the back, which forces the use of the same dimensions all the time.

Successive representatives of the series have gone from the 5.5-inch 16: 9 screen, through the 6-inch 18: 9, to the 6.4-inch 19: 9 screen. All this in an unchanged shape.

The housing is made of Gorilla Glass 3 and an aluminum frame. The manufacturer ensures that the Moto Z4 is splash-proof (although it is not fully waterproof).

Interestingly, Motorola decided to include a 3.5mm headphone jack, even though the first-generation Moto Z was one of the first smartphones to not have a Jack port.

The Motorola Moto Z4 is the return of a single camera

While virtually all manufacturers are multiplying the number of smartphone lenses, Motorola is going the other way. The Moto Z3 dual camera has been replaced with a single 48 Mpix sensor. However, you can still use Portrait mode to blur the background or remove color from it.

The camera has an optically stabilized f / 1.7 lens. Of course, it uses Quad Pixel technology, combining data from four adjacent pixels, so the final photo in automatic mode has a resolution of 12 Mpix.

Motorola also boasts of implementing the Night Vision night mode, which is to improve the quality of photos in more difficult lighting conditions. In turn, artificial intelligence is to facilitate catching attractive frames.

Moto Z4 has a Snapdragon 675 and 4 GB of RAM

So far, Motorola in the flagship Moto Z series has used top systems from the Snapdragon 8xx line. This time, however, the company reached for the Snapdragon 675 unit.

However, there should be no question of a serious performance regression. The 675 is one of the newer Qualcomm chips that has a gaming streak and is aimed at smartphones from the higher mid-price range. It is a pity, however, that it is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM, which is average by current standards.

The full specification looks like this:

Of course, the latest Android 9 Pie, enriched only with a handful of Motorola's proprietary solutions, watches over the whole thing.

Customers of the American Verizon network will be able to purchase an optional module that adds support for the 5G network.

Motorola Moto Z4: price and availability

For now, the smartphone premiered in the United States, where it was priced at $ 499, or the equivalent of PLN 1,930 (excluding taxes). After adding Polish VAT, it would be about PLN 2,370.

Moto Z4 is a rather specific smartphone, which is hardly a direct continuation of the series. Replacing the double camera with a single one, reaching for a chip from a slightly lower segment and the sudden return of the headphone jack give a clear signal that Motorola is not following the designated path, but is only looking for new ways to hit the tastes of customers. Who knows, maybe there's a method in this madness?
