The screen adaptation to the location of the smartphone does not always work perfectly

The screen in many applications on smartphones can be displayed in vertical or horizontal orientation. The passage between these two views is automatically done. For this purpose, the accelerometer and other sensors are used. This is the most convenient solution - just turn the device in your hands so that the image adapts to the new position.

automatically rotating However, it does not always work. Sometimes, when we put the device on the desk faster and do it carelessly, the screen can change its orientation. The problem also arises when we lie on the side in bed and want to have a vertical screen - due to the position of the smartphone, the horizontal orientation will be set.

Of course, this can be easily repaired. Just block the automatic adaptation of the image to the location of the smartphone.

Face ID can improve the function of automatic screen rotation

The new Apple patent describes the use of the Face ID face recognition system to support the screen rotation function. It could detect the position of the head relative to the iPhone or iPad and additionally supporting the sensors.

The interface orientation on the screen would therefore be determined not only taking into account the position of the and order, but also the position adopted by the user. Thanks to this, the need to turn off the automatic rotation function would significantly decrease.

A new solution could be appreciated by people who use an iPhone or iPad on a flat surface or in bed. I must admit that the idea of the Tim Cook team sounds interesting and would increase the attractiveness of the face ID module, which currently serves primarily as biometric security.

Unfortunately, we are dealing only with a patent submitted in September 2018 and published this week. It is not known when and if Apple will decide to improve the automatic screen rotation with data from the face recognition module. The company from Cupertino has thousands of patents that it does not use in its devices.
