iOS 15 just hit users, but Apple is working already over iOS 15.1. What to expect from the upcoming update? We check.

Not all the news announced at WWDC 2021 and the media launch of new iPhones made it to iOS 15, and some of the new features that we have been waiting for, need to be refined. Fortunately, Apple is already working on it. Yesterday, developers received the third beta version of iOS 15.1, which brings some interesting changes.

What's new in iOS 15.1?

One of the ones announced by Apple is the option to record video in the new iPhones from the 13 Pro line using the ProRes format, but Apple has not made it to support it codec in the camera app for the September launch. The company only introduces this option as part of iOS 15.1 beta 3.

As previously announced, ProRes can be used for 4K video recording, but only on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max with 256GB or more of storage. Models equipped with a 128GB hard drive record 1080p video using this codec.

This is not the end of iOS 15 changes. Cool news awaits users in version 15.1

It is also a pity that just as the ProRes format for video files can be introduced as part of the update, Apple has not decided to change the Lightning port to USB-C. Downloading data via a cable to a computer will take ages and nothing can be done about it - you have to use AirDrop and wait for a new model.

iOS 15.1DB3 Macro Toggle

Not the toggle I wanted, but it's now a thing

iPhones 13 Pro will also get the option to turn off the macro mode.

One of the new features of the iPhones is the option to take macro photos with an ultra-wide angle lens. The problem is that although the phones retain the 1x zoom when switching to it from the main one, due to the change of perspective, an unattractive animation appears on the screen.

After updating the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max to iOS 15.1, you will finally be able to turn off this feature without giving up macro photography entirely. Before taking them, however, you will have to manually switch to the ultra-wide-angle lens (i.e. the one with 0.5x magnification).

In addition, Apple has prepared two new products for owners of AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro Max headphones.

After updating the firmware in both top models of Apple headsets, the option to track them from the Find application will appear (formerly Find My). It will work in a similar way as in the case of the company's locators from Cupertino, i.e. AirTags.

In addition, AirPods Pro owners will be able to enhance human speech in contact mode and I am waiting for this novelty the most. Apple's headphones are already working as a quasi-hearing aid, which has been useful to me many times over the past few weeks.
