WWDC 2021 coverage - iOS 15, macOS 12 and other news

WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference) is one of the most important events organized by Apple. Throughout the week, developers and programmers from around the world participate in tons of Q&A sessions and workshops led by Apple specialists, engineers and management. From the point of view of us - ordinary users of Apple equipment, the most important is the first day of WWDC and the Keynote Speach.

This year, Apple presented new versions of operating systems and some unexpected news. Wondering what will change on Apple hardware after the holidays? We invite you to the report. From there you will learn what was shown at WWDC 2021.

iOS 15

We're starting with iOS 15. The new version of the iPhone operating system will offer a ton of new features. The software focuses on better communication between people.

FaceTime receives a significant update. Stereo audio appears. The voices of friends will come from individual parts of the housing. The microphones will receive AI-assisted muting of voices from the environment. Apple has seen the competition's ability to blur the background and share links to the meeting in FaceTime. These are features that should have been in this solution years ago. Everything has also been integrated with the Calendar.

A new feature is the presence of FaceTime in the browser for Android devices and Windows computers.

Face Time also received integration with Apple Music and Apple TV. The whole thing is called Share Play. The solution also works with the Picture in Picture screen.

Share Play will work with third party applications. I am talking about Disney +, Hulu, HBO Max and TikTok. Unfortunately, Spotify is missing.

"What's new" is also streaming our screen to the meeting participants in Face Time.

Time for the Messages app. The software received a photo collage function. Share with You is a novelty. News shared from the News app will appear in it when you open it. Unfortunately, we will not use this function in Poland - the Apple News application is not available with us.

Everything is also integrated with Apple Music, which may be useful for users using this service. Photos from Messages will also appear in Photos.

Share with You will also work on Safari and Apple TV.

iOS 15 will offer a focus mode. This solution is supposed to take care of our Work-life-balance.

Apple has rebuilt notifications. There is a new look and grouping for more important and less important notifications. A novelty is also a summary of notifications that will be displayed in the morning or in the evening depending on when we use the application.

Friends using iMessage will see Do Not Disturb.

You can also choose the mode at work - it will allow you to display notifications from the applications that we use in our work. The same will happen in the after-work mode - we will receive notifications from friends and entertainment applications.

The user can also create their own Focus modes.

Focus also works on iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac.

The real "novelty" according to Apple is the integration of the OCR text reader with the camera application and the Photos gallery. The solution is called Life Text and it allows you to capture text from photos. Everything works within the entire system. Unfortunately, the solution does not currently support the Polish language.

A special tab with the photos from which we read the text will appear in the photos.

The Spotlight search engine has also received a significant update. In its case, it is about visual changes and a new user interface.

Apple has integrated Apple Music with Photos. The company allows us to add songs to our memories and albums. Along with changing filters, you can use different songs depending on our mood.

The Apple Wallet application has also changed. The solution will allow you to save digital IDs to open hotel doors or office spaces in office buildings. Soon, Apple Home and home automation will also support digital keys in the Wallet application. A novelty is the possibility of holding a driving license, but this solution only works in the USA.

After Wallet, it's time for the weather. This application required a lot of updating. Apple has rebuilt the look a bit, but there is no revolution. There are new graphs showing wind speed and the possibility of rainfall.

A new feature are high quality weather maps.

Maps in iOS will receive a new icon after updating to iOS 15.

New, more accurate maps will appear, among others, in Spain. Unfortunately, Poland is not on the list as standard. Apple maps got a night mode and a mapping of characteristic buildings / landmarks in the largest cities.

Apple Maps will get the AR view that we've known for a long time from Google Maps. The whole thing will work in several cities in the United States.

iOS 15 will certainly not be a revolution. This is one of the boring updates in recent years.

AirPods

The AirPods headphones in iOS 15 will get some new features. Conversation Boost will amplify outside sounds during a conversation. User can change balance and adjust external volume.

Siri will notify us of new notifications.

The individual AirPods earpiece can be easily found thanks to the Locator update. In addition, the program will notify us when we lose one of the headphones.

The Atmos Doby has been integrated with Apple Music, and Spatial Audio will arrive on Macs with Apple M1 processors.

iPadOS 15

iPadOS will finally get full support for the widgets we know from iOS. We have been waiting for this novelty for a year.

iPad will receive a special, larger format of widgets that will allow to use the increased workspace.

Another "novelty" is the transfer of the library with applications directly from iOS 14.

These are the two features we've been waiting for since the presentation of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 in June 2020.

Apple changed the system of working with many applications at the same time. There will be an indicator at the top that will let you split your screen into Split View, Slide Over, or Full Screen View. The solution works similar to macOS window arrangement.

iPadOS 15 will introduce virtual desktops known from macOS. This means we can have several desktops with two applications open in Split View.

The whole will be complemented by new keyboard shortcuts.

The iPad will receive a new Notes app that allows you to tag other people and add hashtags to group and find notes.

Quick Note will also get notes. This is a solution known from Galaxy Note devices. The whole feature allows you to quickly add a note from anywhere in the interest of the user.

Quick Note will also hit Mac computers. Notes will also be visible in the Notes application on iPhone smartphones, but we will not create quick notes on the phone.

Translator has been integrated with the entire iOS, iPadOS and macOS system. It is a pity that the Polish language is still missing.

iPadOS 15 makes up for the shortcomings, but again it's not a revolutionary upgrade.

Security

Apple introduces new security options.

The Mail application will offer Mail Privacy Protection. This solution hides the user's IP address and location. The whole thing also does not allow sending information about the opening of the message.

Safari will be given the option to hide its IP address and location.

A new feature is the App Privacy Report - a system report informing about applications that wanted to obtain data on location, IP address, access to a microphone or camera.

Siri voice assistant has received a new voice and modified security. Audio recordings will never leave the device they were recorded on. More options will be available without the need for an internet connection.

The speed of responding to our inquiries will also increase.

iCloud

In iCloud we find a new password recovery option. We can add emergency contacts who will be able to give us the code to recover the iCloud password.

The new thing is iCloud +. I am talking about paid subscriptions with more cloud storage.

iCloud + will offer a Private Relay feature. The solution additionally secures our data collected in the Apple iCloud cloud. Even Apple itself does not have information about the data - all elements are encrypted on the device.

iCloud + will allow you to create disposable e-mail addresses and offer the possibility of connecting 5 IP cameras for safe storage of recordings.

The price for iCloud will remain the same.

Health

Health will receive three new functions.

The Health application will collect more data about our movements. When we put the iPhone in the back pocket, the phone will count the length of our steps and the frequency of walking in a minute. The whole thing will be analyzed and will give us an insight into the level of our health.

Health will remind you about walks and inform you about the decrease in our parameters while walking.

In the United States, the Health app will be able to capture our test results and analyze them for us.

Trends will also be new. As our Health app indicates, it will keep us informed about our lifestyle and any deviations from the norm.

We will be able to share our health data with our friends and family.

watchOS 8

It's time for watchOS 8. The new version of the software will receive improved health functions.

The Breathe app will have a new look and modified animations.

Apple Watch can track your breathing rate while you sleep.

Training application receiving the ability to track tai chi training.

Apple Fitness + will receive a new series of workouts, and the whole thing will be integrated with all Apple devices.

watchOS 8 will receive a new photo-based watch face.

Another novelty is the refreshed application Photos, which in practice is a prototype program with iOS 15. We can easily create new dials from the application.

Apple Home

Apple reminds you of the possibility of opening our home using the Wallet application on your smartphone. Siri has been integrated into Apple TV. This means that you can start a movie / series without touching the remote control.

We can integrate it with Share Play and Face Time to watch your favorite content with our friends.

HomePod mini speakers will be able to act as speakers for Apple TV. Everything will be supported by Spatial Audio.

HomePod mini will still not appear in our country. All because of the lack of Siri in Polish.

Cameras integrated with Apple Home will inform the user that the package has been left by the courier at the door. We can also preview the cameras from Appel TV.

macOS 12

macOS Monterey is the next release of the Mac operating system.

There will be new features in Face Time, Messages, Share Play, Notes and Photo sharing. These are news from iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and watchOS 8.

The new thing is Universal Control. After pairing one mouse and keyboard, we can control the Mac computer and the iPad tablet.

The whole thing works similarly to Logi Flow and allows you to use the trackpad and keyboard built into MacBook notebooks.

Universal Control also allows you to move files, and the whole thing works with more than two devices. This means that we can pair a desktop computer, laptop and tablet.

Apple computers will support AirPlay. This means that we can send the screen from the iPhone to the Mac. The same goes for music.

Mac will receive the Shortcuts application known from iOS. This means that we can create our own shortcuts to trigger previously prepared actions. The shortcuts also work with Siri as well as the Activator.

The new version of macOS is the new version of the Safari web browser. This year there will be groups of cards and a refreshed look. Importantly, groups of cards synchronize between devices. Synchronization also includes the arrangement and last opened tabs in a given tab group.
