"Samsung unlock yourself". Soon we will verify identity with our voice

In the past, if we wanted to unlock our phone, we had to either enter the PIN each time, or, as in the case of older Nokia phones, click "unlock + *". The PIN also served as a security feature in the case of the first smartphones, and the only alternative to it was a pattern drawn on a 3x3 field. Some time had to pass, however, until in 2014 fingerprint readers began to become popular. They offered, for the first time, a truly alternative method of logging into a device securely. A few years after them, on the wave of popularity of the iPhone X in phones, even budget phones, the possibility of authentication using a photo of our face taken through the front camera began to appear. The security of such a solution, especially in budgeters, is highly debatable, but it cannot be denied that in this way we have reached 3 ways to unlock the phone. A fourth may join them in a moment.

Samsung phones will soon be unlocked by voice

Jan reports AndroidCentral, the latest incarnation of the Korean Android overlay, OneUI 3.1, is expected to include a feature called Bixby Voice. This is to be another extension of the functionality of Samsung's built-in virtual assistant, offering 4 ways to log into the phone, this time by checking a voice sample. Unfortunately, it is not known how exactly such a feature would work, but I must admit that I am a bit surprised that it is only showing up now. After all, voice recognition technology (also in the context of speaker identification) has been on the market for some time and even independent entities have already started work on implementing it in smartphones. Of course - the usefulness of such a function will probably be the greatest in the marketing message, and listening to the phone 24/7 will arouse additional controversy. However, if we are talking, for example, about using voice assistants, I believe that waking up phones with your voice can help in using them. Today, if we want to use them, we have to manually unlock the device, which misses the point of contactless smartphone operation.

I am very curious to what extent the voice recognition and logging in function will work properly in Samsung. It may turn out to be one of the first Bixby features that people will use on a daily basis. If so - we will probably get answers from other assistants soon.
