Tip of the week: how to connect a pendrive to the phone

The vast majority of Android phones have the ability to connect external USB devices, such as: mice, keyboard and USB memory.Pendrive service allows e.g..Archive movies, photos and music without running a computer.The only requirement is to have the right cable, which we will buy for PLN.

One of the least known Android functions is the operation of peripheral devices, e.g..keyboard or pendrive.Currently produced USB memory is cheap and very roomy, so we can store a lot of data on them - movies, music and photos.If we want to lose files to the smartphone (and vice versa), we do not have to turn on the computer.For this purpose, we will use a special USB on-the-go cable, in short USB OTG.

We buy a USB OTG cable - is it needed?

OTG USB cable is a traditional adapter equipped with two ends - microUSB and a female USB input.The smaller connector is connected to the phone, while in the second we place the male end of the pendrive:

We can buy the cable for PLN 1, but the durability of such a solution leaves much to be desired.It is worth investing in a more expensive product, because it will guarantee more reliable work.

We connect a pendrive to a smartphone - how?

We check compatibility

At the beginning we check whether our smartphone has OTG mode support, which is necessary to connect a pendrive.To this end, we download and install the USB OTG Checker program:

We start the application and click the Test option.If the phone supports USB memory, then the program will display such a message:

We prepare a pendrive

The pendrive should be formatted to the (supported by the Android) FAT32 file system.For this purpose, we connect it to the computer and open the my computer window.We copy the content of USB memory to a safe PC disk space, and then right click on the name of the pendrive and select Format.We select:

Click Start and wait for the end of the formatting process.

Note - all files in the USB memory will be irreversible to delete, which is why we recommend a backup copy.
