Amazfit GTR 3 - smartwatch test

Amazfit GTR 3 is both a typical smartwatch, but also due to its sporty features it will be suitable for physically active people. Compared to GTR 2, we don't get many visual changes. It is an evolution rather than a revolution. Let's check, however, what has changed inside this device.

Appearance

In the box, together with the watch, we get a user manual, also in Polish, and a magnetic charger. The watch is factory delivered with a silicone strap, which has characteristic protrusions on the inside. Thanks to them, there is less risk of chafing, because the skin can breathe. The strap is pleasant and does not cause me any irritation. Thanks to the universal mount for telescopes, we can replace the strap with a completely different one at any time. The entire body is made of aluminum alloy. The watch itself weighs about 30 grams, so you can't feel it on your wrist. The water resistance certificate used says that we can use it safely in the pool (5 ATM). The front of the device does not differ much from the GTR 2 model. We get the same 1.39-inch screen rounded at the corners. The whole thing looks very nice. On the right edge there are two buttons to control the interface of the device. In one, a knob has been hidden with the help of which we can navigate the menu. The bottom hides a new set of BioTracker 3.0 sensors. The watch, of course, can monitor our heart rate, steps, sleep and SpO2 throughout the day. For example, measuring SpO2 now takes only 15 seconds. There is also a barometer, altimeter and improved GPS.

Screen

The display is made in AMOLED technology, its brightness is up to 1000 nits (peak value). Thanks to this, the content presented on the screen is visible both indoors and outdoors, also in strong sunlight. An automatic sensor adjusts the brightness of the screen to the surroundings. You can definitely see that the panel is now brighter than what the previous models of the brand offered. The screen supports the Always on Display mode, then the time is displayed all the time, but this affects the battery performance. With each dial we have the main one that is displayed after pressing the button and a simplified view that is activated after switching to AoD mode. Then, either the hands themselves or the digital time are shown, which allows you to save the battery a bit.

Navigating Zepp OS

While on the main screen, use the gesture on the left to pull out weather widgets and information about earned PAI points. Here, there are also statistics of our sleep and many other options that we can edit. Moving from the main menu to the right, we go to the tabs, which partly duplicate the widgets. Here we see activity statistics from the whole day, we can quickly measure our heart rate, we also receive weather information, PAI statistics and sleep. From the bottom of the screen, we pull out the notification bar that displays Polish characters, but does not show emojis and photos. Unfortunately, it is not possible to reply to notifications. This is a big problem in relation to watches with Wear OS. With a gesture in advance, we get shortcuts to settings (including quick switching to do not disturb mode, turning on the flashlight, i.e. highlighting the screen with white color to the max). It is true that the regular GTR 3 does not allow phone calls, but it has a built-in microphone and supports the Alexa assistant. To call the assistant, we must hold the upper button for at least 3 seconds. In this way, we can control the watch using commands in English ... Just say, for example, open music, and a panel with music will open. The bottom button is responsible for going to the tab with sports activities, about which I will write more later. Another press of it is the back option. It is also possible to modify the functions of the buttons. We can therefore change the settings so that the buttons activate your favorite applications.

Applications menu

All applications provided by the manufacturer of the watch are available in the menu. Let's briefly check what this device offers: By going to the training settings tab, we can activate the watch so that it automatically detects when, for example, we run or walk and starts registration.

Zepp application

For full control over the smartwatch, we need to download the Zeep application. It has undergone a significant visual change compared to what it offered under the name Amazfit. Most importantly, the app is fully in Polish. The interface offers a lot of statistics in a readable form. Thanks to it, we get an even more complete view of sleep statistics, heart rate, steps, and graphs of physical activity. The application also includes extensive watch settings. We can customize applications that display notifications, as well as install new watch faces. An important novelty is the store, which allows you to install additional applications. The application works on both Android and iOS. Importantly, activity data can be synchronized with Apple Health, Google Fit, as well as Strava or RunKeeper.

Sport functions

In GTR 3 we get as many as 60 new sports modes. Previously, there were 90, and now we get 150, including esports. In addition to the standard running, walking or swimming, we have a lot of new categories. There is dancing, team sports, football, volleyball, boxing and much more. A new feature is racing your ghost. We can run our previous run during training and race against ourselves, improving our results. Thanks to the use of a new sensor system, heart rate tracking is available, even while swimming. Improved GPS quickly finds your location and tracks your route better. The built-in barometer shows the altitude information and the current pressure. This option can be useful especially during mountain hiking. I regret that the GTR 3 does not offer the function of uploading music to the watch's memory. We will find it only in the Pro version.

Battery

The battery is a big plus of this device in relation to devices based on Wear OS that I recently tested. A cell with a capacity of 450 mAh gives up to 20 days of using the watch with active notifications. If we run sports modes every day, e.g. running for an hour, the battery will last about 7-10 days. In my opinion, this is still a very good result. We will fully charge the smartwatch in an hour and a half. This is an average result, and charging is done using a charger without support for wireless charging technology.

Differences compared to Wear OS

You're probably wondering how such a watch differs from Wear OS devices, such as Galaxy Watch 4, TicWatch 3 Pro? GTR 3 is equipped with a proprietary system from Amazfit, i.e. Zepp OS. Unfortunately, it does not allow you to pay with your watch, we also do not have the ability to respond to text messages or other notifications. There is also no extensive application store, as on Huawei watches. However, it is worth noting that the GTR 3 is the first watch. which has a semblance of an app store. The AppStore is built into the Zepp application, where we will find a calendar, a to-do list application, a calculator, an application for women to track the menstrual cycle. Hopefully, third-party apps will be added in the future as well.

Summary

Amazfit GTR 3 is an easy-to-use and solidly made smartwatch. In this year's series there is also a Pro version, which compared to the tested model has a slightly larger screen, built-in memory for music and the ability to talk from the level of the watch connected to the phone. Compared to the GTR 2, there are not many revolutionary changes here, stylistically we get almost the same watch. In my opinion, the knob located in the upper button is useful. Thanks to it, it is easier to navigate through the menu. The most important changes have taken place in the heart of this device. A big plus is definitely the battery life. Almost all sensors in the watch have been improved and are now more accurate. If you need a smartwatch that will last a long time on the battery, will measure your activities correctly and display notifications, then it is worth considering buying equipment from Amazfit. It is worth remembering that the watch is as extensive as devices with Wear OS, but it is also much cheaper than them. And you don't need to recharge it every 2-3 days. - no third-party applications (Google Maps, Spotify, etc.) - does not support uploading music to the device's memoryDo not miss similar news → Follow us on Google News.Share:RELATED TOPICS Test Motorola Moto G200 5G.Amazfit GTR 3 - smartwatch test
