An iPhone that is actually a screen

In electronics manufacturers' advertisements, the phrase "X is a screen" is misused to describe devices that simply have very thin bezels or 2.5D glass overlapping the edges. However, a visualization of the idea of an iPhone has appeared on the web, which really has a touchscreen on almost all sides.

In one of the patents filed by Apple, a sketch of the device appeared, in which the display can be seen from the front, back and ... on all edges. Thanks to this, there would be no buttons in the device, and such a volume control could be replaced by virtual buttons displayed in its place.

The same applies of course to the lock button, which we would no longer have. However, when scrolling content in applications, these could not disappear under the frame, but ... move to the other side of the housing, up to the palm of your hand, which could result in a really interesting effect - even if it would not be very practical.

A smartphone made entirely of glass would not have any ports in addition.

iPhone bez przycisków ze świecącego szkła ma w sobie coś hipnotyzującego

Of course, the creators of such a device would face many challenges - especially when it comes to the camera, the island of which is sticking out today and a few millimeters of the already thick housing. On the web, however, you can find materials in which concept iPhones have screens on the front and sides and classic backs.

Anyway, in this type of device there is no room for ports and cables. So far, iPhones have Lightning sockets, and many people would like to switch to USB-C, but I will not be surprised if Apple stubbornly sticks to its standard in order to ... completely abandon the input and output ports in the future.

All data can already be downloaded from and uploaded to Apple's mobile devices wirelessly - be it via AirDrop or the cloud. For charging, you can use a wireless charger compatible with the Qi standard and the MagSafe technology based on it.

The only thing that is worrying is the potential durability of such a device with glass on all sides and… repair costs. Already, with classic displays, their replacement is extremely expensive, and what if the entire housing was a display, including not only the edges, but also the backs?
