iOS 15.2 doesn't detect genuine parts at all! iOS 15.2 doesn't detect genuine parts at all!

The iOS 15.2 Replaced Parts Verification feature does not detect genuine parts at all, only those replaced by the manufacturer's service, whose numbers have been entered into the GSX. Others, even genuine ones, are detected as "perhaps" unoriginal. The "Unknown part" message will also be displayed when you use an original part but do not enter it into GSX.iOS 15.2 doesn't detect genuine parts at all! iOS 15.2 doesn't detect genuine parts at all!

In recent days, there has been information about a change in Apple's approach to the issue of self-replacement of components in Apple products. The withdrawal from the deactivation of Face ID following a self-replacement of the display, even if it is original, was appreciated by the media and users around the world, and the information about the 180-degree turn on the right to repair the iPhone in the form of sharing by Apple not only guides, diagrams, but also parts for self-replacement, received overly optimistic by many naive observers.

The "Right to Repair" was supposed to be introduced with the iOS 15.2 update

It was this software update that restored the biometric facial recognition function of the iPhone 13 series, which had self-replaced the display, regardless did anyone get the original screen or used a replacement. If you replaced your screen and lost your Face ID on your iPhone 13, Face ID will work again after updating to iOS 15.2.

In addition, the iOS 15.2 update features the Parts and service history option (activated only after tampering with the device), which at the moment is to present information about the three components - display, battery and main camera. This feature does not inform you to the other listed items of the phone. In the case of models older than the iPhone 11, we will find here only possible information about the replaced battery. They will not be about the screen and the camera.

iPhone parts and service history

This feature will only be displayed if any of the components detected by the iPhone have been replaced. If none of them are listed, you won't find this feature on your phone. If you have replaced any of the listed components, you will find information about it in Settings > General > This device > Parts and service history.

The manufacturer informs that information about the completed repair of each of the components detected by the device will be displayed only when the repair is performed using original Apple parts and tools. Then Genuine Apple Part will appear in this section. Otherwise, we will receive the information Unknown part in this section.

"Unknown part" doesn't mean unoriginal!

If after the repair in the post-warranty service you see the message "Unknown part", does it mean that it is not original? Nothing more wrong! In the paragraph above, I clearly marked the words "..and Apple tools". This means nothing more than the Apple service system used by the manufacturer's employees during repairs. This tool allows you to assign a new part to the serial number of the device, thanks to which it does not display a message about the inability to verify the replaced element (screen, battery, camera, depending on the model in which the repair was made). Only Apple employees with access to this "tool" can do this.

If you replace a part with an original one, regardless of whether it is new or comes from disassembly, the phone will still detect it as Unknown part, because it will not be added by the "Apple tool".

We are checking: Will iOS 15.2 detect genuine Apple parts or not? Patient iPhone 12 Pro Max.

For the test, we checked on the iPhone 12 Pro Max how exactly it looks with iOS 15.2. So far, after replacing the screen, battery or camera in this model, a message in the form of a Notification about important information regarding one of the listed components was displayed on the phone screen. This information is displayed for 4 days from the start of the phone. After this time, it disappears and can only be reached after going to the settings.

The notification was displayed for 4 days after launch. She later disappears. After touching it, we were transferred to the menu, where the information about "unable to verify" the installed part was displayed.

Currently, after inserting the motherboard from the second iPhone 12 Pro Max, into a device that has never been repaired or even opened, after updating to iOS 15.2, we again have notifications on the screen about each of the listed components with a message in English, about that there is an important message waiting for us about the replaced element, and also the inability to verify its originality.

After selecting any, we are taken to the Parts and Service History section, where all 3 currently inspected components are listed as Unknown Part, although they are genuine.

Importantly and it must be emphasized, Apple clearly informs that detecting and informing the user about the listed parts does not affect the operation of the device in any way, and does not limit its functionality in any way.

What does this mean?

In our opinion, original parts used by independent services speak for themselves. Differences in the quality of the displayed image by soft OLED, hard OLED and other replacement screens, compared to Super Retina HD or Liquid Retina HD, are visible to the naked eye. So if an independent service claims to have installed an original Retina OLED or LCD panel, it will simply show. You don't need the lame recognition of listed parts like the one in iOS 15.2.

Next year, initially in the USA, but probably very soon also in Europe, due to the regulations on the right to repair in the EU, the manufacturer will offer the possibility of purchasing and replacing components on their own. We are waiting impatiently, because only such a move will allow us to provide a clear offer for those looking for high-quality maintenance services outside the manufacturer's service.
