Buying a Galaxy S21? You will not connect it with an older Samsung smartwatch and band

Samsung has just announced that some of the older Gear series smartwatches will no longer be compatible with the Galaxy S21 smartphones, which will appear on the market in 2021.

If you were hoping for support for older Samsung smartwatches and fitness bands along with the upcoming flagships of the Galaxy S21 family, then unfortunately - the chances of this are practically zero. The Koreans decided to encourage the purchase of new wearable equipment, ending with technical support for old models.

If you can't imagine operating without two Samsung devices with you, it's time to prepare for an additional expense.

You will not use these smartwatches when buying the Galaxy S21

Samsung plans to withdraw the oldest models of bands and smartwatches from the Gear family in the context of cooperation with the upcoming flagships from the Galaxy S21 family. The reduction will be quite solid, because it is to cover as many as 5 devices:

Before we start hanging dogs on Samsung, it should be noted that the Koreans actually decided to withdraw support in the context of the oldest devices. The youngest of them appeared on the market ... in October 2014, so we are dealing with very old devices.

Is this decision surprising?

Samsung's decision is therefore absolutely not surprising - it can be safely assumed that older wearable devices are no longer able to take advantage of many interesting features and novelties offered by much younger models, and the advantages of a connection between a smartwatch and a smartphone are now much greater than 5-6 years ago.

For now, there are no indications that a similar step will also be taken in the case of cheaper devices from the Galaxy A family - but you can expect that switching to newer models of Samsung smartwatches and wristbands will be something inevitable in the coming months.

What instead of the Gear smartwatch?*

Samsung offers many Galaxy series smartwatches that you can choose if you are planning to buy a new smartphone from the Korean manufacturer.

An interesting choice may be the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, the latest and most advanced model in the company's offer. Its price is at least PLN 1,500, and it offers, among others, a 1.2 or 1.4-inch Super AMOLED screen, IP68 certification, and as many as 120 exercise modes.

A slightly cheaper option is, for example, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, for PLN 899. It has a diagonal display: 1.4 ", Bluetooth connectivity, NFC, WiFi, GPS and offers a battery life of up to 58 hours of normal use, as well as many activity tracking functions and a lot of multimedia functions.
